That Special Day

That Special day

I was running on the treadmill when I heard a loud crash of the window shattering. It was the second time this is happening within a month - the cricket ball broke the balcony window into hundreds of pieces. It must be the 'cricket playing brats' out there. This time, I am not going to spare those idiots. I got down from the tread mill and went to the cricket ground with my tracksuit.

"Your nuisance to others is getting intolerable of late. I am going to complain to the colony secretary." I screeched.

Who asked you to construct a house opposite to a cricket ground?,” a guy in that group murmured. I couldn't identify who.

"Was this an Airport or Army training center to make sure no houses are constructed around its yard? Just a cricket ground!."  My anger crossed all limits and I stressed more on “cricket ground" as an attempt to belittle it.

“If your dad built the window with low cost glass it would crash even for a mild breeze. Go, ask your dad to build glass windows with strong Saint-Gobain glass” another guy besmirched with a smirk. I attempted to erupt again, but i was interrupted.

"Hey guys, Please. . .The mistake is on our side" The hero of the match  my life came forward and continued, "Sorry Deepika, I hit the ball. It was my mistake. Will pay the damage cost."

I didn't expect this, at least at this situation, so I was dumb-struck . How could I reply further? He was the guy I am admiring from the past 5 years. He is more than a crush for me now! . To hide any sign of expressing anything in front of him,  I just returned the ball with a formal warning and turned back.

I could hear the guys as I was making a move. "Adi, why did you lie to her that you hit the ball?" Someone was asking him.

“It was for a purpose. Since, I said I hit the ball; she didn't make an issue of it. If I had told the truth, she must have complained to secretary, and we would be in trouble, boys.”

Adithya house was next to my house on the left and he was not entirely unaware about the crush i had for him. But until now, it is only at a reciprocation of formalities with exchange of smiles and hi-byes. Nothing more than that. I think he wanted me to proceed further, but I wanted him. A narrow bridge between the hearts, but nevertheless, a blocking bridge.

The next day, I was on the way to office. I observed Adithya's friends boisterously jumping out of our neighbor's wall with hiss and hustle. The house owner's family settled in abroad and it remained unoccupied since 3 years without being rented out. The front yard of house was unkempt with full of  thorny bushes and shrubs. People started throwing wastes inside the compound and in the yesterday's torrential rain, water has formed a sizeable pool.

“What are these guys doing there inside the unoccupied house? These incorrigible brats must have hit the ball inside the compound” my prejudiced brain made a guess.

“It is a Black snake! I am sure" shouted one.

“It must be the King cobra,” other guy refuted him.

“No da, its Anaconda” other guy thundered.

“It must be no less than 40 feet long”

“Looks like It can swallow even a human” another brilliant boy yelled.

"Guys. It’s a just a normal rat snake” another guy in their group tried to stop their wild interpretations.

Gosh. I wondered at their imagination on seeing a normal non-venomous snake. And then suddenly,  I felt some pleasantly shocking electric effect through every vein of mine and yes, (you guessed it right.) My eyes caught Adithya hopping out of the compound.

I could sense the fear in Adithya eyes, but on spotting me he said, "I could easily catch and kill it with my hand. But, I care for annnnnmimals. . .. .“ He must have heard some dry leaves slithering beneath his feet and without losing any moment he took a run. I didn't hear anything about the snake after that.

Evening I was returning back from office. While crossing that unoccupied house, I heard a long, high-pitched whining; I peeped inside the unoccupied house gate and observed a puppy got struck somewhere in all the messy vegetation of the front yard. The puppy must be 5 day old!  It must have entered the compound through a small gap in the gate. It got it's limbs entangled in the roots under the water and if left unattended,  it may not last a day because of starving. Who knows, if more water accumulates, it may even... oh God. My heart wanted to save that puppy. But there were mosquitos, flies and insects flitting around that stagnant water. The years of accumulated vegetable wastes caused an intolerable stench and was giving me a vomiting sensation even if I inch close to the gate. Only in the morning the boys spotted a snake in that. One boy even said it is an anaconda!

Follow your heart
Whom Should I Listen !? Rational Brain or to the wisdom of my heart.
scratches around my body....
On remembering all these, I stepped back from trying to help that puppy. But my heart was not willing to leave that puppy to it's dreadful fate. Following your heart may be good for theory and in writing a post, but in reality!? The tired puppy is now giving up and it's neck got immersed into water further. I realized that I don’t have time to listen to my brain or even call out my friend. The compound wall was tall hence I need some support to jump into the front yard of the house. I rushed home, threw my bag somewhere, dragged a chair with me and using it, I hopped into the house. I had to cross at least a 100 meters of harmful bushes to reach for the puppy. The thorns were hurting and i could sense some mild bleeding somewhere too. Unmindful of the same, I stepped into the pud, while all the mosquitos started to buzz around me.  I reached for the puppy and I lifted it and started running back to the compound.

That Small puppy :)
Sheesh. Never imagined I would be such a dumb-ass. The wall was out of my reach from the inside; I never gave a thought about getting back when climbing in. I left my mobile at my home, and hence could not call my parents even. Since the wall was tall, I could not see any people walking on the road. My parents will be back at home around 8 pm and it will be too long a wait in this dreaded place till that. The innumerable insects screeching and the mosquitos buzzing made me nervous and I started to sweat. As if my life is dependent on it, I cried out for help. But I think none could hear my voice. Tears rolled down my cheek. In all this tense moment, the puppy suddenly licked my hands. Glad that I could smile! There was a sense of contentedness in saving a life.

"Give" I heard someone shout with impatience, in my direction. Wait, I know that voice! It was him, Adhithya!

I got relaxed on seeing Adithya and offered my hand.

"Give the puppy first" he said and safely placed the puppy on road and offered his hand. He almost lifted me to the other side.

He was giving lecture for my blunder, but altogether I was enjoying the chemical reactions happening inside forgetting the physical damages that happened on the outside. The touch of his hands is adding frenzy to the chemistry.

“Go and apply medicine for the scratches.” He blurted again, which made me recollect my senses.

I went home and the puppy started to follow me. Since it was looking dirty, I washed it while I cleaned myself. I took a hot shower and later when preparing tea for myself, I offered milk to that puppy. That’s it, from then on, it got attached to me. I had a nice time pass playing with that.

Cute Puppy
My Puppy
Around 8 PM, My parents returned from work and scolded me for bring a puppy out of nowhere. I was ordered to leave that puppy somewhere far away from home. I took my scooty to drop the puppy, while thinking where to leave it.

Next day morning,

The puppy was sleeping in front of my house gate. This time, I don't have the heart to part with the puppy again. I decided to adopt it, whatever may come. My parents gave up convincing me and they finally agreed.

The puppy is now 6 months old and is my best buddy. He accompanies me always. Every day morning, he licks my face to wake me up. I grew to like this.

My Best Buddy..

About Adithya?,

It has been six months now, and every morning he starts the conversation with, "How is your hand now? And what did the puppy do today!?" and our conversation never ends :P

Sound of Love

Sound of Love

This post has won the BlueStone #SoundOfLove contest.

I took a deep relaxing breath, after putting my sign in the candidate’s Signature field of the Medical application form. But my heart skipped a beat when my dad requested hostel application form and filled it. My house is just a 10 minute drive from the college, then why he insist to put me in college hostel?  With thoughts in my mind, I signed the form and submitted.
While driving back to home my dad said, “For quite some years, things are not working in between me and your mom. We decided to go on our ways finally.”
I could not believe what my dad said. So as soon as I reached home, I rushed to check with my mom. I could see my mom’s sarees packed in a suitcase. She said, “Your education was important to us and we felt our decision of separation would disturb your education. That’s why, we decided to separate once you complete your Schooling. I got my job transferred to Bangalore and you dad will still continue to work in Apollo Hospital, Chennai”
Tears rolled down to my cheek. I am the only daughter and hence could not discuss this issues with my siblings too. Every first Sunday, my dad would visit my hostel and my mom on second Sunday.
5 years passed.
Final day of my college...
My parents came to take me to their home, but mom expected me to leave my dad and come with her and dad wanted the same. They started having arguments and finally without even knowing what’s running on my mind, they decided to share me(!?). First 15 days I would be staying in my mother’s house and next 15 days in my father house.
Months passed.
One day, while I was driving my 2-wheeler a black car lost its control and rammed my Scooty. When I opened my eyes, I found my mom and dad standing together. I realized that I was in ICU for almost 2 days in unconscious state. I was advised by the doctors to stay in the hospital for another 15 days. My parents started having conversation about my health and medicines. But nothing more than that. They stayed together in the hospital. I also understood that those 2 days, when I was unconscious, they both were emotionally supportive to each other. The final day came. It was time for me to get discharged.
My dad helped in placing the luggage in my mom’s car and voluntarily replied, “Nothing can replace mothers love and you are the best in taking care of my…my daughter. So take her, to your home.” He said and headed towards his Elantra without waiting for my mother’s reply.
My mother shouted at him, “What? What you said? Your daughter.. Huh!? How could you say that? Wasn’t she our daughter?”
My dad did not turn back. He opened the car door and was about to get in. My mom rushed towards him, stopped and pleaded, “Tell the truth. Didn't you miss me for these 5 years? These 15 days, I felt your intense love for me. Didn't you feel my love? Didn’t you observe my pain of missing you? Didn't my heart beats tell you, how much I need you?." She knelt and started crying.
“Go and check your car dashboard” He replied firmly.
My mom rushed to her car, to check the surprise lying in the dashboard. There was a beautiful rose and a greeting card. “I can’t live without you anymore. I need you. Can we start a new life again!?”

The Greeting Card
My mom covered her face with the greeting card and began to cry. They looked at each other and exchanged a small hug.
“Mom, proposing with a Rose and a greeting card? A very outdated style of proposing ma. At-least for this reason, you should reject his proposal.” I teased them.
"How could you tease my hubby?" She hit me on my head with love, forgetting the injury on my head. Dad took me in his arms from wheelchair and carried to the car. When he slipped his leg, my mom said, "Careful sweet heart, we just got her back."
Their eyes met and it exchanged lot of emotions.

A Cute proposal on Valentine's day

A Cute proposal on Valentine's day
February 14th
12.00 A.M
“Hi Karthick, Good morning. I am damn crazy about you. Can we meet sometime tomorrow?.” I called him anonymously.
I know for his attitude, he never considers even if someone proposes him directly. Is he going to take the blank call seriously?
“Well, thank you, But I have lots of work tomorrow and can’t meet you. Take care bye” He replied.
Beep. Beep. Beep.!!!
The call got disconnected. I am confident that, he will accept my love before the end of Valentine ’s day, because I had planned so well. The next day morning as soon as he got up, I knew he would come straight to the wash-basin to wash his face and brush his teeth. So, I had written “LUV You :) ” with close-up paste on the mirror.

Karthick sister is my close friend and hence staying at his home was an easy task for me. As expected, Karthick ignored the writing on the mirrors concluding that one of his family members is playing pranks with him on Valentine’s day. His parents have gone out to the temple and only his sister and I were at home. I prepared a coffee with a heart art and offered him. He wished good morning, got engrossed into newspaper and started drinking the coffee without observing my coffee art.

PLAN 2 FAILED!!!
But I had another chance, I have written “LUV You :) ” at the bottom of the cup. Plan 3 too got failed, since he left a few of the coffee drops in the cup :(
I am sure Plan 4 will succeed. He got ready to office and walked towards his bike. He observed a greeting card and a gift box placed on his bike seat. He opened the gift box and saw 2 platinum rings. A person who is playing pranks will not be spending so much. He felt something was serious and called his sister to enquire about the parcel. We both acted, as if we are unaware of it.

If Karthick gets doubt on me, I would consider myself lucky. But its human tendency to ignore the things which is near to us, and search something that don’t exist. Karthick did the same, he did not doubt me. He took out his mobile and scrutinized his call logs. I called him from a private number, how would he find the details of the call that he received at 12.00. With puzzled look, he kick started his bike and rushed to the office.

ZOOM OUT
Before 6 Years.
“Hey Deeps, our seniors are looking for one person who is very good at dancing and I suggested your name since you were one among the top 10 contestants in the "Dance Machi Dance" show,” Evelyn said.
I gave her a bright close-up smile and went to my college auditorium, where they were practicing. A group of 3 guys and 2 girls were doing warm-up exercises. All of a sudden I was little nervous because all of them were my super-seniors. I snail paced towards the stage and among the three, one guy's dance style glued my eyes. I was immersed in his movements and did not realise the steps. My legs fumbled, slipped and fell on the floor. That’s is when I caught my seniors' attention and they came towards me for help.
After the help, Karthick (yeah, the guy whom I admired a lot) came straight to the point, “We have inter-College Cultural Fest in 10 days. With this leg, will you be able to dance.”
I was shocked, yet loved his attitude. On hearing my yes, he requested other to start the practice and narrated his conditions to me, “Well, we would be practicing day and night. I need your complete dedication for these ten days. Day scholar or hostel?” He did not wait for my answer. But continued, “If day’s scholar, please get a permission from our chairman to stay in the hostel for these 10 days. Past 3 years, we bag the prize for dance competitions and this year I want the same to happen”.
I shook my head and then he played a song and requested me to choreograph and dance for it immediately. When my mind struck that he was keeping an audition for me, I told him, “I have been the top 10 in Dance Machi Dance show”
“So what? You did not win the title right? Every dance has its own style, and I want to check whether you are able to perform this dance style”
What an attitude!!! I cleared the audition, but without my mind's knowledge my heart started developing a crush on him. He was my pair in the dance and I was pampered a lot, since I was the only junior in their gang.It was for a fusion of 5 songs and one of the song was for “Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega”

Karthick started liking after seeing my dance styles and dedication. He was in the final year and hence in 4 months, he would be completing the college. I thought of proposing on the last day but I felt I was too young to do. May be I must finish college. I told myself. After that Kartick left the city for his higher education and no contacts between us.

I willingly became friend with Karthick’s sister. Every month Karthick’s mom used to travel to Tiruvannamalai temple (which is 250 kms from Chennai) to circumnavigate. I followed her 2 months and for the 3rd visit, she invited me and thus I become one of the family members.

ZOOM IN
I know Karthick would be expecting a call from me(that anonymous call) and hence I called him once he reached office.
“Hi Karthick, it’s me again. Hope, you are ready to meet now?”
“Hmm, tell me where I should meet you”
“VGP Golden beach. Please come before the Sunset.”

5.00 P.M,
VGP Golden beach,

As soon as he reached the beach, a guys of 15 people started to perform flash mob. After 5 minutes, the song "Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega" played and I entered with the same dance slow and romantic movements which I danced with Karthick before many years in our college. The sun was about to set and the song was about to get over. I observed karthick going down with a bent knee and he took my hand and slid a ring on my finger and asked, “Will you marry me?”

Before I could recover from the shock, he continued, “I was in love with you, the moment I saw you for the first time in the college. And after that, it was all my plan. I willingly excluded one of my seniors from the dance so that I can include you in my dance group. Rest all you know.”
“So, you know that I am following you for past 6 years.” He smiled sheepishly and said, “And I enjoyed every bit of it”
“You” I took my hand to give him a punch and he pulled me closer. Romance Filled the air

Follow your Heart

Follow your Heart

The above video is taken as a part of organized #UseYourAnd activity at BlogAdda in association with Gillette Venus“.

"One Matcha Lattea and for you?"
"Hot Choco Latte," Rohan replied.
The waiter took our order and left the place. My face was brighter than usual and he was puzzled.
"Tell me, you said you wanna discuss something important?"
"Yesssssssss Rohan," But he interrupted. "Heyyyy, between that we received the joining date from Intel. They want us to join next month". His eyes scanned the file which was lying on the table.

Rohan - We knew each other since childhood. Both our parents were good friends and so we are. We studied together for XII board exams, prepared together for IIT JEE entrance, and joined B.Tech Computer Science in Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. Things went well, because we possessed a similar set of interest.
As soon as I joined B.Tech, I found Engineering is not my cup of tea. Rohan topped in academics, where as I scored pretty decent score. I was the R.J for my college. All staffs, students appreciated that my voice was mesmerizing and it has the capacity to hold the audience spellbound. Soon I realized Anchoring was my passion.

Three months before, we faced the most integral part of every college student’s life- “College Placement”. Intel came to our college for campus recruitment. I had no interest to attend the interview, but on Rohan’s request, I attended. We both got placed in Intel at a whopping annual salary of 14 lakh. In-spite of my academic score, Intel gave me an offer, because of my extra-curricular profile. The very next day Rohan proposed and after a week of show off I accepted his love.
~~
"What the heck," he screamed as soon as he saw the call letter from Indian Institute of Journalism & New Media. He continued, "I thought you are joking about your interest towards Anchoring. I never believed you will apply for post graduate Diploma in Media & Mass Communication"
"Rohan as I said Anchoring is my passion. I love it whenever I do" I replied him returning to the present.
"Following your passion is a bullshit decision. Dropping high-profiled salary job and going behind a profession which pays you roughly 12,000 per month would result in disastrous"
“Money is not everything. If Barkha Dutt, Menaka Doshi and Cyrus Broacha had thought the same then there won’t be any good anchors existing today."
"Okay, leave about money. I don’t like to say my wife is working in television"
"Are you so conservative...?
Our arguments went into heat and luckily it was stopped by the waiter who served us the cold coffee. I took a sip and continued, "Rohan those computers, coding, debugging are not my area of interest. I would just live an ordinary life. Every month end, I would be getting a big digit salary. But, I won’t be living a meaningful life. I love doing research on the social issues, politics and economic concerns and collecting anecdotes. It will keep me lively."
"I agree you have the qualities of Anchor. Observant, Creative, good looking and good sense of timing. But talent alone is not enough to succeed in this field. You need to be thick-skinned, should have good contacts in the industry and…and"
I stopped him before he says something nonsense, "Rohan, Our heart is like a magnetic compass. Once you listen and follow, it will take you to the heights. In an interview, the journalist asked A.R. Rahman how he feels about Oscar Awards. He said, he never works for money or awards. His love for music always motivates him to work harder. And that fetches him award. It’s very important for everyone to not get bored with the work we do”

He gave an expression of groan and warned, “What if I say in that case you will end up missing me?”
I was silent. He continued, "Follow your heart, chase your passion can be good to read and watch in movies. But for practical life, its not going to work out. I too have lots of dreams about my Future. Onsite travel, luxurious lifestyle... Anyways… you still have 5 days’ time to accept the Intel offer. If you don’t accept that offer, I think I need to reconsider our relationship"
I heard his footsteps go to the end of the exit and a door open and close sound.
Days passed. . .
I joined Indian Institute of Journalism & New Media to pursue my dreams. And Rohan?. .
Hmm..No contact after that. Heard he went to Australia for a long term assignment.

Once in our lifetime, we are in a position to make a choice. We need to compromise one thing or the other. When you are confused to choose the path, it’s always better to follow your heart. Because in the future you will not have regrets. And when you fix your eyes on the goal and follow your hearts, no one can stop them from reaching the zenith.

Importance of Truth

Importance of Truth

At least once in our lifespan, everyone could have lied. It could be for someone’s happiness or with an intention of not hurting others.
When a person enquiries about the look of a new dress, we tend to say it’s awesome though it looks average on them with an intention of not hurting.
We purchase an expensive phone and notify only half of its price to our parents just to escape from scolding’s.

But being honest gives us Honorable respect and friends. When I told my friend that for her complexion dark colour suits better and suggested the new models, she followed it with little hesitant. But on receiving positive response, she was very happy and thanked me. From that time, whenever she goes for shopping she always takes me. Because I was honest and candid with her selection.
There was one incident in my life where telling the truth have saved a Job, saved a person. It taught me a very valuable lesson.

“Of Course, Truth hurts!!! But remember that’s the ONLY seed which bears tasty fruits in future”
I and my close friend Rithika were working in the same company from past 5 years. This year March, she lost both her mom and dad in an accident. She was the only daughter and it shook her to the core. She went to depression and we tried our level best to bring her back. But she did not take any step to come out of that incident. She didn't turn up to office as well. 3 Months passed, no progress. After our kind request, she joined the office to divert her mind. But every day she used to come very late. As a friend I knew the reason. She weeps whole night and sleep only by morning 4 or so and wakes up very late, missing the cab. Her mind was always clouded with her parent’s thoughts and hence she lost focus on work. She started making minor mistakes and missed the deliverables at work. Her performance impacted the client and they started sending negative feedbacks to her manager.
Emphasising her condition, the managers and senior managers ignored her first mistake, second mistake as well, of course third mistake too. But as days passed, she started making major mistakes and the escalations from clients roared high. But Rithika was not even in a position to realise the impact of those escalations and negative feedbacks.

Her Manager failed to explain the impact, since he thought it would push her to depression further. But I could clearly sense the vision.
December Month was about to approach and for corporate, its bonus and review time. Most of the corporate companies give bonus to their employees based on their performance. In my organization, an employee will be ranked as below based on his/her performance during the entire year.

  1. Extra Ordinary performance
  2. Successful Performance
  3. Inconsistent performance

If a person gets Inconsistent performance, he/she needs to leave the organisation immediately. It’s a kind of termination. As per my organization policy one employee in a team has to get Inconsistent performance. Not only me, everybody had understood that this year Rithika is going to get Inconsistent performance in my team. But none of my team mates had the courage to give hints to her. Because we all felt comfortable on avoiding the truth. We all thought hiding the truth would make her happy for at least for the next few months. We were trying to be human (!?) sympathetic towards her.
But every night, before I hit bed a guilty feel would kill me. I realized that I am not going to protect her for long, by hiding the truth. On recognising the consequence and her situation after 3 months, I felt hiding the truth is a crime.
The next day I took her to my home and told straight to her face.
“Listen Ritu, Your parents had fought so much ONLY for your welfare. Their happiness was to give you an excellent education and an understanding life partner. They did their part in offering you an outstanding qualification. Now, it’s in your hands to protect it and fulfil your parent’s second wish.  I don’t think so, you are heading towards it. In 3 months, if you don’t prove yourself at work, they will be terminating you. And your parents’ soul will see you losing a Job. Their gift of education to you will be gone waste”
She asked,“What’s the use in fulfilling their wish when they are not with me”
I explained her briefly about how important is her Job now and in future. I explained her the necessary of being happy so as to make her parents soul rest in peace.
She started sobbing with the anxiety of losing the Job. I hugged her tight and said, “See Ritu, if you keep on crying every day, your life will be surrounded only with negative force. You are killing yourself. Your brain won’t be active enough to concentrate in work. You had already become so fragile. Nothing is over my dear. Anyone can start a new beginning at any time. I know it’s impossible to forget the past. If you feel like crying, just cry. But immediately try to come out of it and start working. Remember one thing, if you don’t do hard work, you will lose the job in another 3 months and when you sit at home, again the past will haunt you. Your parents will be happy only if they see you happy my dear.”
I spoke all the truth and reality for another one hour. It did hurt her and she cried to the core. But the next day…
She came to office wearing a new dress. Her bright face projected her confidence. For the next 3 months, she worked day and night. In the initial days, she struggled a lot to focus. But as days passed she got diverted to work completely and started getting good name in office.

Decemeber – Review Month.
Rithika came out of the meeting room. She ran towards me, hugged tightly and started weeping ignoring the CCTV camera. I got nervous without knowing how to console her.

She wiped her eyes and said, “Deepu, If you had not told about the real situation three months before, I must have had lost the Job today. On seeing my past performance, the mangers had decided to give me Inconsistent performance. But on seeing the hard work and my performance for the past three months they gave me successful performance. They also encouraged me to get extraordinary performance next year. I feel everything is coming to place now. Thanks dear.” She went back to her desk, opened her purse and looked at her parent’s photo. She closed her eyes and prayed.

At that point I realized telling lies for someone happiness is just a temporary solution. Though Truth seems like a Medicine which at first seems to be aversion, it is a kind of Vaccination which would be treating so many dreadful disease (incidents) which is lying a head.

Clean Shave

“Varun, your attitudes towards facial hair shows you are conservative. I don’t want my team member to appear as a slacker in front of client visit. A clean-shaven face is must. I hate your unclean stubble,” my manager screeched 10th time and left the conference room.
“So, Varun are you going to come in ‘squeaky clean' avatar tomorrow”Deepthi asked curiously.
“Nah.” I replied her.
My manager opened the door and warned again, “if you come with sloppy image tomorrow, I am going to chuck you”
“You know some facts? Women are more likely to kiss a shaven man,” Deepthi added.
“Hah. Actually, girls find unshaven men sexy” I replied.
“Not all. 90% of girls finds shaven look as hot. So, come with a clean look” Deepthi said and left the room.

MY passport, driving license, PAN everywhere my photo identity are with beard look. Why the ****, I should shave? I love this scruffy style. It was my identity for past 4 years. I wonder why these corporate world frowns down on facial hair. But, I don’t have any other option other than coming in shaven look. Because, I need to deliver a presentation in front of clients tomorrow.

Women love to kiss a shaven man

“Varun, your attitudes towards facial hair shows you are conservative. I don’t want my team member to appear as a slacker in front of client visit. A clean-shaven face is must. I hate your unclean stubble,” my manager screeched 10th time and left the conference room.
“So, Varun are you going to come in ‘squeaky clean' avatar tomorrow” Deepthi asked curiously.

Haunted Gift box

Haunted Gift box
I woke to the buzz of alarm and rolled over the bed to find my mobile.
"85 Missed calls...
35 Messages..."
My mobile screen revealed.
“Must be Navin,” I opened up the messages and my guess was right.

"Aathmika..Please pick my call"
"Sweetie..Sorry.. Forgive me :( "
"Love you Aathmika.. XOXO"
"I won’t drink moving forward. I swear Aathmika darling"

I read the message one by one and remembered the silly fight we had last night. All I could remember was we kept arguing on some stupid topic and the heat of conversation hit the peak. I shouted at him with anger, put the phone in silent mode and went to sleep.

I smiled on seeing all the message, instantly my rage on Navin getting reduced to zero. I went to brush my teeth and came out immediately on hearing doorbell.
There was no one there, but I found a box beside the slipper stand.
‘I was surprised to see a parcel with my name on it.’

TWO HOURS BEFORE..

Rima was experiencing the paranormal activity from past one week…
From the time the cute Barbie doll arrived her home...
Every day when Rima woke up in the morning she would observe the furniture misplaced. ..
Books, magazine and newspaper in the living room was scattered...
Mirror, Coffee cups shattered...
At night, the lights would go off and on at odd time...
She would hear mischievous sound of scampering footsteps..
Sometimes she could even feel, someone standing right next to her...and when she turns to notice.. it would be NONE...
"Rima" she heard a strange female voice calling out the name.......
she turned back and observed Barbie doll on the bed... She realised that it must be the victim.
She snatched the Barbie and threw it out the window and into the street.

Navin woke up and checked his mobile screen. No message or calls from Aathmika.
"What an egoistic girl. From night I am calling her.. No reply to my calls. And message. This is my limit. I am not going to convince her anymore" he thought to himself but ended up typing, "Darling... still angry? Love you.. muuuaah" he sent to Aathmika and went out of his house to get newspaper. On the way, he saw Barbie doll, lying on the floor. It was new and cute. He thought gifting it would make his girlfriend cool. He wrapped it and sent it to Aathmika house.

AT PRESENT…
"Hey Navin Barbie doll is so cute" I was talking to Navin on call after seeing the gift.
"I went to Archies before the shop was open and brought especially for my sweetheart" Navin replied.
“Hey Navin wait.. I am getting a second call...” I said and noticed the number...
 it was from
.

NAVIN

So called Love..

Aneesh halted his bike on observing the traffic signal. Aneesh love to ride bike especially with his love Anitha. And much more, he loves to halt at signal. Because those few second conversation which he have during the wait... would be more ...INTIMATE...
But today, each second was hectic for him, even-though Anitha was behind him.
Reason being, they were in fight.
Reason for fight?!
Come on..
It was just an another idiotic fight which they had for goofy reason.

Aneesh had a glance at her face in the rear mirror and turned his face towards his left side.
“Isn’t she beautiful?” Anitha asked him and he nodded his head.
“You… You will admire another girl...and in-turn you will accept it with proud. I hate you, Aneesh” She scolded him and got down from his bike and started moving away.
Aneesh took out the helmet and removed his earphones which was plugged into his ears and wondered, “Was listening to songs and nodding my heard was a crime?. Weird. This time, I am not going to convince her for sure.” He thought and zoomed his bike to his room and found his roommate having drinks. With anger, he took the bottle, had it in a single gulp and started screaming, “Girls are very complex...When they are sad, they expect us to be sad. If they are happy, they expect us to fly with joy. Irrespective of our feelings..."
His mobile buzzed.
“Sorry Aneesh” Anitha replied the other end.
“Honey, Please don’t mention. It was my mistake. I am sorry”
“Hey your voice is different? Did you booze?”
He acted  as if he got a cough and said, “Drinks ah? The moment you came into my life I even stopped drinking water and you know that sweetie. I got drenched in rain and got a bad throat and cough dear”
“Oops, have cough syrup”
“Sure Sweet heart.." He blushed and relaxed
But damn sure.. he learnt a lesson today. Sometimes playing prank would save a fight :)

Ring the Bell

"Coming.." I answered for the 5th time to the person who was standing outside and recklessly pressing the doorbell for the past 10 minutes.
I tried forcing myself to land my legs on the floor to wake up but couldn’t succeed. I covered my face with blanket and went back to sleep again.

This time my mobile buzzed and I answered in a sleepy tone, "hello".
I could hear my maid’s voice from the other end requesting me to open the door as she was buzzing it for the past 10 minutes. Finally I opened the door with my regular sentence, “Sorry, was watching movie late night. Couldn’t get up at all when you rang the doorbell”
She gave me a nasty smile and walked towards the kitchen to kick off with her work as she knew this was my default dialogue over every Sunday morning.

While brushing my teeth, I asked her about her kids just to keep up the conversation, (being a working women it is very difficult for me to even say Hi to her during week days) .
With proud she said, "All started going to school". I was happy to hear her kid’s studying.  Meanwhile I finished my brushing and was heading toward sofa, she gave coffee along with an application form to be filled in. As it was in English she requested me to help her.

It was actually an application form to open new account in a bank. After I had written her full name in BOLD letters, went to the second field which was Date of birth. While I asked her date of birth (in my mind based on her physical appearance I concluded that she must be in her late 30’s.) While I was deciding on her age she responded “Madam its Oct 2nd 1990”

I was shocked that she is much younger to me. With this big surprise I completed filling her form. She continued with her work but my thoughts were around her.

She has 4 children at the age of 22. As per my guess, she should have been married at age 12 and had the first child at age of 13. While all these was running in my mind she said she have finished the work and will take leave.

I stopped her for a moment and out of anxiety/ curiosity asked her, if she doesn’t take me wrong can she tell me Is her family from very rural place?
She answered, "Ours is town not village”.
Then I couldn’t stop myself asking her next question that, then why did she get married so soon?
For that she replied, she was very good in studies and dreamed to become a teacher. But her parents were not interested in girls getting education. So they stopped her studies after she finished 5th and in couple of years they got her married, as her parents felt a girl child is a burden and she was not strong enough to oppose them. So she had to marry the person whom they said. She thought she will convince her husband after marriage for further studies, but her in laws wanted kid and so on..
Her whole life was twisted.

While she was about to take leave she said, "I will not do injustice to my four female kids."
I felt very proud for her but felt guilty for losing a Teacher.

There are number of children who get married at very early stage. Pease stop the Child marriage and empower the girls by offering them opportunities to gain skills and education. This is happening to our sisters, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and daughters around the world. Its our time to wake up and Ring the bell.

Touch of Mist Book Review

Read more review of Touch of Mist here

Reena was distraught. It seemed unbelievable that she too had succumbed to this rat race of life. The consequences had been dire: a marriage that had broken even before the profundity of those three magical words, “I Love You” could sink in.

Touch of Mist” is a glitzy, modern-day love story of two young, sophisticated, IT professionals, Gautham and Reena, who meet by chance, sparks ignite and they fall head over heels in love with each other.

They tie the knot and start a new life. But no sooner do they do that that fights erupt and egos clash. The first casualty is love, which plummets and marriage turns miserable; break-up beckons and the relationship dies.

Aftermath. Does Reena commit suicide or fall in love with another person? Does she reconcile with her first love Gautham?

This story meanders through different emotions that touch the lives of the protagonists such as love, friendship, marriage, heartbreak, grief, anticipation, humour, disgust, joy, fear and ends with a heart-warming credo that “Life is to Live”.
