The Gift of Wings: Our Family's First Flight Journey

Click below to read about planning this birthday surprise and flight journey

In this article, I will share the story of how my father-in-law, mother-in-law, and my son, Hethvick, embarked on their first flight journey, creating memories that will be cherished.

Birthdays are a time for celebration and surprises. This year, I decided make my husband's special day truly unforgettable.

As the clock struck midnight, the stage was set for a momentous surprise. After unwrapping all the gifts, I presented him with an oversized box. The big box seemed to raise suspicions, and he thought it was a prank. He then began to carefully unwrap the large box. Little did he know that inside the box lay a surprise that would take his breath away.

As he finally opened the box and gazed inside, nestled within the confines of the box was a flight ticket. The seconds seemed to stretch as we all waited for his reaction. The surprise, carefully concealed within the box, was now out in the open. His eyes sparkled with a mix of astonishment, gratitude, and sheer joy. That's how I revealed his birthday gift: a flight journey for his parents and our son.

Waiting for Their First Flight Journey

Hand in Hand, Embarking to the Airport

My Son Thrilled for Upcoming Trip!

Our journey began with a thrilling secret. As per our plan, we headed to Bangalore airport without revealing to my father-in-law that we were going to travel by flight. It was all part of the grand birthday surprise! We had our boarding passes ready and were eagerly waiting for the moment to spill the beans. After we had our boarding passes in hand, we excitedly informed our father-in-law that this surprise trip was his anniversary gift.

However, just when we thought everything was going smoothly, I received a call from the airport. There was an 'unrestricted item' in our suitcase, and after some suspenseful moments in front of a virtual camera, they opened our suitcase to discover the culprit – a simple power bank! It may have been a minor hiccup, but it added an unexpected twist to our adventure.

The flight attendants warmly welcomed us onboard, and we took our seats. As the engines roared to life and the plane taxied towards the runway, there was an undeniable thrill in the air.

My son, on the other hand, was in absolute awe. His wide-eyed wonder and infectious enthusiasm were heartwarming. The view from the window was like something out of a storybook for him. He pointed out the tiny houses on the roads below, the fluffy clouds outside, and the seemingly endless expanse of sky.

My father-in-law and mother-in-law, despite their initial apprehension, were soon drawn into the magic of the flight. They marveled at the fact that they were soaring through the sky, above the clouds, and heading to a new destination.

What surprised me the most was when we were about to reach Chennai, I could see the breathtaking beauty of the ocean as we were flying above it.

After landing, We met Ganesh Anna and took his car and embarked on a journey along ECR (East Coast Road) with its breathtaking views until we reached our destination.

As my primary focus was on planning the trip and I had conducted thorough research, I ended up booking a room at Coco Retreat Farm Mahabalipuram based on the appealing photos I saw online. Furthermore, all the hotels were fully booked for Saturday night and this was the only option I was left with.

However, upon arrival, we were met with a rather disappointing surprise. The room was located deep within a forest, and the atmosphere was quite eerie. The quality of the bedsheet left much to be desired.

Just as I was feeling disheartened, thinking that this was not the way to conclude my husband's birthday celebration, we quickly decided to look for another resort. Fortunately, we found an available option for the following Sunday. Since we were tried we made the necessary adjustments and decided to fly to the new resort the next day.

The next day, we stopped at a tender coconut shop to refresh ourselves. While discussing our travels, the shop owner mentioned that the place we stayed last night wasn't in Mahabalipuram and it's too far from it.

Well, it sounds like that I might need a geography lesson along with the coconuts! 🌴😂

Though, I felt disappointed about being misled by the resort staff, I quickly decided to focus on enjoying the present moment.

Arriving at Chariot Beach Resort:

Once we reached resort, we decided to spend the entire next day exploring the resort. Our accommodation was at the stunning Chariot Beach Resort, which offered a beautiful golf view room opposite the beach. We checked in and had an electric cab at our disposal to navigate the resort's vast expanse.

Exploring Mahabalipuram:

After a bit of relaxation, we headed for lunch and enjoyed some quality time at the resort's swimming pool. Our first destination was the India Seashell Museum, just a short walk from our resort. The museum left us in awe with its astonishing shell collections, some so lifelike that they resembled real creatures.

Next up, we ventured to the Mamalla Fish World, where my in-laws indulged in a unique fish spa experience. The Mini Asia and Mineral Museum were equally fascinating, with intriguing displays to explore. The luxury inside the Pearl Museum made me wish I had a costly pearl to adorn myself with!

For a thrilling experience, we visited the Horror Museum, where my brave in-laws found more amusement than fright in terrorizing the ghostly inhabitants. Pancha Rathas, an architectural marvel, captivated us with its intricate stone carvings and historic significance.

As the day wound down, we relaxed at the beach, and my husband and I took a leisurely walk, hand in hand. The serene waves and the starlit sky created a perfect backdrop for a romantic end to the day.

The next day, we spent some more time swimming and then checked out for the day.

My husband's birthday trip and his parents' anniversary trip to Mahabalipuram were filled with surprises, adventure, and quality time with loved ones. It's amazing how a simple power bank mishap can turn into a memorable part of the journey. Mahabalipuram's hidden gems, from the Seashell Museum to the Pancha Rathas, left us in awe of India's rich heritage. This birthday celebration was a reminder of how travel can create lasting memories and bring families closer together, one adventure at a time.

Tents and Thrills: Jungle Trailz Resort in Bangalore

"Travel is not always about going far away; it's about finding the right escape to rejuvenate your soul"

I always believed that a perfect travel plan should involve going a minimum of 200 kilometers away from the place where we are currently staying. After all, who's gonna spend heftic 5k per day on a resort to stay in their own city? That's like paying to be a fancy local! Well, this travel gave me a different perspective.

In the midst of relentless 18-hour workdays, vanishing weekends, office politics, and unyielding pressure, life had become an overwhelming struggle over the past month, leaving me utterly burnt out. The time had come to acknowledge the toll it was taking on my well-being and grant myself the respite I so desperately needed.

So, this morning, my family and I spontaneously decided to take a nearby trip, finally giving in to the idea of exploring a resort in Bangalore. After some quick research, we settled on "Jungle Trailz Bangalore."

When I called the resort to check for room availability, I was informed that all cabin rooms were booked, leaving only tents as an option. I hesitated for a moment, wondering if my young son, Hethvick, would be comfortable staying in a tent.  Ah, it's August – a month filled with breezy winds and rain showers making camping in a tent a less desirable option.

But then, I realized that life had been monotonous lately, and trying something different might be exactly what we needed. We booked the tent without a second thought, hoping for the best. If the worst scenario pops up, our backup plan is to return home in the car.

We packed cozy bedsheets and pillows to stay warm inside the tent. However, in the excitement of the trip, we accidentally forgot to bring them along.

Our journey encompassed a total of two hours— an initial hour through the inevitable traffic followed by another hour navigating on NICE road.

Our day was packed with thrilling adventures like the Burma bridge, Log walk, and Bali swing and we discovered that the resort we chose was an absolute hub of excitement, bringing a whole new dimension to our trip! We had a blast on the longest zipline, spanning an impressive 1 kilometer, taking us on an adrenaline-pumping journey through the forest treetops.

Swimming @ Nature Pond

Another fantastic highlight of the resort – natural pond where we could enjoy a refreshing swim! But wait, here comes the real jaw-dropper – the pond's depth was an incredible 18 feet! On top of that, the thrilling water zipline at the resort offered us an exhilarating experience as we ran, jumped, and plunged into the refreshing embrace of a natural pond. Believe me, the memories we made here will be etched in our hearts forever!

In the evening, we enjoyed rain dance and explored the beauty of nature trails. As the night fell, we gathered around a cozy campfire, sharing laughter with other guests.

Our very first family tent adventure:
Immersed in the splendor of nature's embrace, we savored every moment of living in our cozy tent. The symphony of water flowing gently in the nearby pond added a delightful touch to the experience. After our son fell asleep, my husband and I took a leisurely walk around the tent. It was a much-needed moment of connection and relaxation for us, enjoying each other's company in the peaceful surroundings. In the wee hours of the morning, at 3 am, we finally hit our cozy tent for some well-deserved rest.

As I lay inside the tent that memorable night, my preconceptions about resorts in Bangalore changed. The experience was an absolute delight, offering relaxation without the hassle of long travel. It was a gentle reminder that travel isn't solely about venturing far and wide; it's about discovering the perfect spot to rejuvenate, even if it happens to be right in our own backyard.

As I closed my eyes, eager for a restful night's sleep, the serenity was shattered by blaring music that jolted everyone awake, including my young son, at the hour of 4 am. Apparently, a group of bachelors was extending their party even in the early morning hours, unconcerned about how their actions disrupted the peace for others.

We politely requesting them to lower the volume. But now my son insisted on hearing a bedtime story to whisk him off to sleep. With a sprinkle of creativity, I weaved a tale with the current situation involving a courageous lion and a cunning tiger. Tired and sleep-deprived, we attempted to find solace in sleep again, but the bachelor were playing carom games, and mindless chatter from the group continued unabated. Sleep seemed like a distant dream.

In a bid to escape the noise, we decided to take an early morning walk around the resort at 4 am. It was a moment of revelation as we strolled in the stillness of the night. Eventually, the unruly group retreated to their tents, and we were able to grab some much-needed rest.

The next morning was filled with anticipation as we prepared for a trekking adventure. Despite a somewhat restless night for my son, we managed to wake up at 6 am, enjoy our coffee, and feed him milk. The tiredness lingered, making it a bit challenging to rouse him fully. We set off for the trek but encountered a small setback - we couldn't find our trekking group or the designated route. Nonetheless, with the helpful guidance of the resort manager, we set out on an alternative path. Although we couldn't complete the trek as planned, we made the best of the situation. Pausing at a scenic spot, we soaked in the breathtaking views, cherishing the natural beauty around us, and then gracefully made our way back, turning an unexpected detour into a memorable experience.

On our way back, we decided to add a touch of fun and adventure to our journey. Spotting a tractor passing by, we couldn't resist the opportunity for a unique experience. With excitement bubbling within us, we hopped onto the tractor, feeling the wind in our hair as we enjoyed the bumpy ride. It was an unexpected twist to our trekking trip, making our return journey more memorable and adding a charm to our adventure.

On reaching resort, we couldn't resist the thrill of zip-lining once more. After another exhilarating round of soaring through the air, we finally decided to head back, with a refreshed view on life and a newfound appreciation for the beauty within reach.

Couch to Coastline: Gokarna Beach Trekking

Breaking news: After six months of break from Facebook, escaping from the clutches of Facebook notifications, I logged in. An exhilarating post from Mad Adventures, Bangalore about a weekend trip to Gokarna: Beach Trekking & Beach Camping caught my attention. The words "beach trekking," "camping," "Yana Caves" and "eight beaches" ignited an excitement. Trekking with my hubby was on my bucket list, and this seemed to be the perfect opportunity. However, with our fitness levels resembling like potatoes more than athletes, we pondered if we were better suited for this trekking. We toyed with the whimsical idea of opting for a private retreat in Sakleshpur/Chikmagalur instead of joining a trekking group. After careful consideration, on Friday morning, We decided to embrace the trekking. We were lil-prepared for the adventure ahead. My husband and I didn't even have proper backpacks, and he was stuck with a pair of flip-flops and running shoes instead of trekking shoes. We borrowed power bank and packed our clothes in laptop bag instead of backpack. With haphazard preparations, we set off on our journey.
Sand, sun, and endless adventures. #BeachTrekking
Trekking to Gokarna: From Metro Rides to KFC Feasts:
We boarded the bus to Majestic but on driver's suggestion we hopped on to metro from Baiyappanahalli, hoping to escape the crazy traffic. Our first-time experience in the metro was filled with awkward glances. After our victory of being the early birds at the trekking pick up spot, we proudly strutted and decided to indulge in a finger-lickin' feast of Tandoori crispy chicken at KFC.

Introduction to Our Adventure Squad:

Get prepared for a rollercoaster ride as I take you through the cast of characters that joined us on our trekking adventure!

First up, the dynamic duo of Ashutosh and Kalpana, injecting our team with a surge of youthful energy. Adding to the mix was Kalpana's sister, Keerthi, who remained mostly quiet, adding a sense of tranquility to our dynamics group.

Hold on tight because here comes Prasanna Sir and his gaming prodigy son, Nandan! Nandan, recently achieved an impressive 92 percent in his 10th grade CBSE exams. His passion for gaming added a unique twist to our trekking conversations about virtual world.

Next comes, Sana and Vijeth, twinning in matching t-shirts, they showcased their bond in a unique way. Unfortunately, their journey was cut short due to Sana's leg discomfort. They booked a bus and bid us farewell on Saturday evening.

Well that's not all, Ankitha VJ, the trek leader and biking enthusiast. With her knack for capturing picture-perfect couple moments, she transformed us into Instagram stars.

Last but certainly not least, we were in awe of Prashanth and Akshatha family. Their fearless 9-year-old daughter Avni who had already conquered Kodachadri. This lit adventurer reminded us that age is just a number and inspired us to bring our son along on future treks.

As we continued onboarding our crew, we discovered a surprising connection - Kalpana revealed that she was a product owner, instantly illuminating my husband's face with excitement as he too was a product manager.

Together, our team was a blend of unique personalities, stories, and passions. In the midst of this spirited group, my husband Karthik and I, were set for an for thrilling escapades with this remarkable crew!

Rain, Heat, and Unpredictable Adventure!
The morning rain brought relief and set the stage for a pleasant climate. However, once we refreshed ourselves, the weather took an unexpected turn, and the scorching sun became our constant companion throughout. Regardless of the weather, all the women got their colorful hair braiding. Led by the guide, Gowtham, we navigated through risky, deep slopes, fueling our adrenaline and creating thrilling memories.
Our beachfront tent a pure bliss.
Our beachfront tent - a pure bliss

Our hiking was filled with laughter, thrill and games. One of the games involved building on a word, where each person had to add a related word to the previous one. We erupted in laughter when Kalpana's response to "men" was "smelly" and "animal." It was a lighthearted moment that perfectly encapsulated the humor.

at Om Beach
Continuing our beach-hopping, we explored an impressive array of coastal wonders. From the lively shores of Belekan Beach, we immersed ourselves in the beauty of Paradise Beach and marveled at the enchanting atmosphere of Full Moon and Half Moon Beaches. Each beach offered its own unique charm, making our coastal exploration an unforgettable experience.

Embarking on our first-two-day trekking expedition, venturing beyond our comfort zone, Karthik and I discovered a heartwarming sense of unity. Together, we efficiently managed our things and coordinated our shoe choices, reflecting the deep connection and understanding we had cultivated as a couple made it unforgettable.

Unexpected Encounters: Cattle and Serendipity
As we arrived at Om Beach, anticipation for a delicious lunch filled the air. Surrounded by awe-inspiring beauty, we were unexpectedly greeted by a friendly herd of cattle. At first, it seemed like they were joining us in our elation. However, much to our surprise, they snatched our food! We couldn't help but laugh at the amusing turn of events. Recognizing their hunger, we decided to let them enjoy the meal we had brought. Even cows deserve a tasty treat amidst their beachside adventures.

Jet Ski Thrills at Om Beach: Taking the Wheel and Riding the Ocean Waves!
At Om Beach, our adventurous spirit soared to new heights as we decided to try jet skiing. Excitement coursed through our veins as we hopped on the sleek white watercraft, ready to conquer the waves.

Salty Waves, sunny days and Jet Ski Plays

To our surprise, the person operating the Jet Ski offered me the chance to take control halfway through our ocean excursion. It was an exhilarating moment as I gripped the handlebars, feeling the power beneath me and the salty breeze against my face. With every twist and turn, I rode the waves with a newfound sense of adrenaline and were fully immersed in the sheer joy of riding the waves.

Discovering serenity and adventure on the sandy shores

Late eve, Ankitha introduced us to the concept of Instagram reels and we had good reals.

Unleashing Hidden Talents and TT Laughter:
On our way back to the homestay,  team were on full as Kalpana, Prasanna sir, our VJ and Keerthi sang, while Avni delighted us with a school song. A delightful surprise awaited us as Karthik's for singing suddenly emerged. With the infectious energy of the group, he belted out the popular song "Munbe Vaa" and was joined by Akshatha, who added her own melodious touch.

After capturing their incredible singing videos, I found myself in need of charging my mobile. Imagine my excitement when I stumbled upon a charging port inside the tempo traveler! Alas, it turned out to be a reverse charging port. 😆

"Lost in the melody of crashing waves 🌊🎶"

Nighttime Adventures, Starry Skies, and Moonlit Dancing:
Our evenings were spent weaving together the beautiful love stories of fellow travelers. As the night fell, an electrifying energy enveloped the environment. The couples in our group couldn't resist the rhythmic waves and starlit sky, and began to sway to the beat of their own hearts. In a moment that felt straight out of a dream, Karthik and I swayed to the enchanting melody of "Vaseegara." The moonlit beach became our own private dance floor, and we danced to the romance of the moment.

And then, something extraordinary happened. Prashanth sir and Prasanna sir unleashed a hidden talent that left us in awe. With his effortless dance moves, they set the stage on fire and mesmerized us all. Not to forget, our adorable little one Avni danced energetically even at mid-night.

As the night deepened, we embarked on a moonlit walk, venturing another few kilometers along the beach. The moon, casting its gentle glow upon the water, guided our steps, and we reveled in the magical experience of its mesmerizing reflection.

"Glowing moon, serenading waves, a night to remember. 🌙✨"

Explorations : Day 2 of Our Incredible Journey:
Our second day was filled with breathtaking sights, heartwarming moments through forts, caves, and self-discovery.

Morning Exploration: Fort Delights and Couple Poses
As the sun began to cast its golden rays, we bid farewell to our cozy tent and ventured out into a brand-new day of exploration. Our first stop was at Mirjan fort. We couldn't resist capturing the magic of the moment with a couple pose, immortalizing our love and the beauty of the surroundings in a single snapshot.
"Exploring the enchanting beauty of Mirjan Fort ! 🏰✨"

"Embracing my true self and ready to conquer."

Trekking to Yana Caves: Unveiling Wonders
After an energizing start, we set our sights on Yana Caves, a natural wonder that beckoned us with its mystical allure. We trekked, trekked and trekked. The path to Yana Caves was accompanied by the soothing melody of water stream sounds.
"Yana Cave : Nature's masterpiece!"

Exploring the hidden wonders of Yana caves!

Enchanting Tales: Yana Caves and Curious Listeners
Once we arrived at Yana Caves, Ankitha regaled us with captivating stories about the caves history. As we absorbed every word, we noticed a police officer listening intently, his curiosity piqued by the tales that unfolded before him. It was a moment of connection, where the love for exploration and storytelling transcended barriers and brought strangers together.

And, of course, our tradition of collecting mementos led us to acquire a Yana Caves fridge magnet.

Gratitude and Reflection: The Power of Companionship
A mesmerizing nighttime view of Restro Restaurant

Vibrant and inviting ambiance

With our timely arrival, we seized the opportunity to head Elements Restrobar for a scrumptious dinner and extend our timing. Our plan to watch the epic clash between CSK and GT in the IPL on the big screen was abruptly drenched in disappointment as rain crashed the party. But we enjoyed a delightful dinner in a light and open ambience, savoring the flavors and relishing the pleasant atmosphere.

We were truly blessed to have such amazing group of trekking in our journey and creating memories that would last a lifetime.

In conclusion, venturing into the great outdoors alongside my better half was an experience beyond compare. We checked off another item from our bucket list as we trekked hand in hand, forging unforgettable memories that will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Embracing nature's wonders and each other's company, we discovered the true essence of adventure and companionship. This journey was truly the best experience we could have asked for, and it reaffirmed the beauty of exploring the world together as a team.

Discovering the Unexpected: A Memorable Unplanned Trip to Coorg

Journey to Coorg's Beauty:
Starting our day with a refreshing cup of tea  ☕💻✨ #EarlyMorningTea

We continued our journey, with the hope of reaching Coorg in 20 Kms. We lost network connectivity and were completely reliant on our instincts and locals to reach our destination. After crossing 30 kms, we finally reached a point where we could get some network connectivity. We searched for the location of Coorg and realized that we were still 80 kilometers away from the main point of Coorg. However, we were determined to make it there as it was just a 1 hour 30 minutes drive.

We set out on our journey once again and were greeted with a breathtaking view via Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary. The lush greenery and the stunning road views made the long journey worthwhile.

After driving 80 kilometers, we reached the location that the map showed us as Coorg. But to our surprise, it was just a forest! We soon realized that we had reached the Coorg district, but to explore the places, we needed to go to Madikeri Town.

We searched on all the travel websites, but couldn't find a single hotel to stay. We realized that it was already 3 pm and hadn't yet found a good restaurant to eat.

After deep diving for Coorg Cuisine Restaurant on Google reviews and reaching the recommended spot for lunch, we found it to be extremely crowded and didn't have the time to wait any longer as it was already 3.45 pm. As we were parking the car, a friendly local recommended that the hype around Coorg cuisine was overrated and suggested we try the Paris Restaurant instead. We gorged on the delicious food, and our spirits were lifted. With renewed energy, we set out to explore the rooms for the stay.

Unplanned and Unforgettable: A Tale of Finding a HomeStay in a Forest in Coorg:

We managed to book Ananya Greens Resort through Booking.com. However, our plans hit a snag when we received a call from the hotel manager informing us that no rooms were available and the availability as showing due to a technical issue. We were stuck in a difficult situation, as it was peak season, and we had nowhere else to go.

Desperate for a place to stay, we requested the manager Pranav to help us out and give us a room at any cost. Thankfully, he referred us to another person Sandeep who could help us out.

Meanwhile, we started walking on foot, going road by road, street by street checking all the hotels in the vicinity for availability. We must have called over 30 hotels, but all in vain. We were running out of options and had almost given up hope.

However, our luck changed when we received a call from Sandeep. It was a Homestay inside a forest with coffee estate located far from the city, but at that point, we were willing to take whatever we could get. The location was so secluded that it wasn't even displayed on the maps, but we decided to take a chance and check it out.

Our host had instructed us to come near the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences and follow his route to the homestay. Little did we know that our destination was located at the end of the forest, surrounded by mountains and mist, coffee plantations, and beautiful landscapes

As we arrived, we were struck by the beauty of the place. We were completely surrounded by nature, and it felt like a paradise.

In the evening, our host took us to a private waterfall, which was exclusively for us. It was just my husband, son, nature and me, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The beauty of the waterfall was breathtaking, and we felt like we were in a fairytale.

We returned to our homestay for dinner, and it was fantastic - unlimited food, and the flavors were exquisite. We were pleasantly surprised when we met another family at dinner, and they turned out to be very social. We instantly became good friends with Ambika and her family, and our kids hit it off as well. Our son, Hethvick, had a great time playing with their kids. Occasionally, they would hit the football, and it would roll into the forest. In the dark, they searched for the ball, and it added to the adventure. Including Hethvick we all had stayed up late, chatting and playing games until midnight.

Experience at Dubare Elephant Camp:

Next day, Monday, We woke up to a beautiful misty morning.

We had planned to visit the Dubare Elephant Camp (Open Timings: 9 am to 11:30am) and were excited to see the majestic animals up close. However, as we arrived at the camp, we found it to be extremely crowded. Due to the shortage of water, boating was canceled, and we had to cross the river to reach the camp.

We soon realized that we were not going to be able to bathe the elephants as planned. The line to do so was incredibly long, and by the time we got there, it was already too late.

We decided to explore the camp and feed the elephants instead. We spoke to  mahouts and Hethvick got the opportunity to feed an elephant, and it was an incredible experience for him.

After lunch, We bid goodbye to our Ambika and family, hoping to meet them again soon.

On our way back to Bangalore, we encountered heavy rain and traffic. However, we were delighted to see a beautiful rainbow, which made the journey more enjoyable.

With memories we returned back.

Sometimes, it's good to disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature.

Our unplanned trip had turned out to be an unforgettable experience. We learned that even when things don't go according to plan, there's always a way out. All you need is a little bit of luck and the willingness to take a chance.

Sometimes, the best experiences come from unexpected situations.

Homestay Experience at Kudajadri Drizzle: Finding Hidden Gems Amongst the Average

Day 3 : A Trip to En Ooru: A Mixture of Adventure and Disappointment

On day 3, We woke up to a breathtaking view of mist from our beds in the morning. We bid farewell to our host, who had been incredibly helpful during our stay.

As we set off on the next leg of our adventure, we reached En Ooru. After two days of trying tickets, we finally managed to book online tickets and hopped onto a jeep, excited for the adventure ahead.

Despite the rush of the weekend, we enjoyed the Jeep ride and the thrill of traversing through rough terrain. However, our excitement was short-lived as we reached En Ooru. The weather was hot and uncomfortable, and we were disappointed to find that there was little to see in the area.

There were few huts, and there was nothing of interest to explore. Perhaps if the climate was pleasant, we might have appreciated the beauty of the surroundings.

Tribal Archery Museum: A Fun-Filled Adventure
In En ooru, there was a tribal archery museum that offered an interesting opportunity for Archery. My husband was excited to try his hand at it. The museum provided us with three chances to hit the target, and if successful, we would win a gift.
To our surprise, my husband managed to hit the bull's eye on his third attempt and won the game. Myself and Hethvick were thrilled and couldn't stop applauding him for his incredible shot.

The Key Mishap: A Halt in Our Journey

After a tiring morning, we decided to head towards our next stay Kudajadri Drizzle. However, just as we were about to do so, we received a call from the owner of the Bodhi Hut. It turned out that we had accidentally taken the room key with us. We rushed back to return the key and continued our journey.

Although the food at the India Gate Restaurant was excellent, we were keen on exploring other dining options. However, we soon realized that finding decent hotels during our journey was a challenge.
Despite this, we continued our journey with high spirits and stopped at Taste and Mist restaurant in Kalpetta, and while the food was delicious, it did come with a hefty price. However, what truly made the experience memorable was the breathtaking view of the forest from the restaurant. It was a truly enchanting sight, and I found myself lost in the beauty of nature while enjoying my meal.

Boatless Bustle: Banasura Sagar Dam : A crowded Saturday

On the go, we decided to visit Banasura Sagar Dam and later check into homestay to unwind in the evening. The weather was hot and the place was crowded on a Saturday, which made it difficult to get tickets for the speed boats. In light of our Hethvick and the weather conditions, we opted for a van to reach the top and admired the stunning view of Asia's second-largest dam. Hethvick was traveling in van for the first time and he thoroughly enjoyed it.

Our Homestay Experience at Kudajadri Drizzle: Finding Hidden Gems Amongst the Average
We checked into Kudajadri Drizzle Homestay, a 95-year-old Jain Tharavadu (ancestral home of nair Joint families in Kerala). Though it was amidst the lush greenery, upon arriving I was initially disappointed with its average appearance, considering the cost of around 3500 INR per night (without food). The homestay would cost at a mere 1500 INR only.

Having previously stayed in a treehouse amidst nature for two days, it took some time to adjust to the room.

As we explored the homestay, we stumbled upon an inviting pond and a variety of big blooming flowers. It was a delight to take a walk in the natural beauty. Upon encountering large, red ants, we quickly fled the scene.

A Traditional Family: A Story of Love and Care
On seeing our car's registration from Tamil Nadu, One uncle, who looked around my dad's age, struck up a conversation with us. We quickly bonded with him and his family, as they were from our hometown of Erode.

They came as a group of 14 people, consisting of 6 families, and were making their own food. They graciously invited us for dinner, and since we couldn't find any good restaurants nearby, we shamelessly agreed.

I joined them and helped in cooking by chopping vegetables, making dough and washing utensils. It was an amazing experience to connect with them and be a part of their cooking process. The family were so traditional and could sense their love and care in making it healthy and tasty for the family rather than eating out.

Despite heavy rain, lack of power backup, and leaking water due to an old building, we couldn't help but reminisce about our childhood and grand mother's house.

The next day morning, We were fortunate enough to pack a couple of delicious idlis for Hethvick that was prepared by the kind family whom we met last night. It was a heartwarming experience, and it reminded me of the kindness of strangers becoming friends or family and the beauty of sharing a meal together.

Warm Send-off: A Touching Connection:
The grandpa from the homestay gave me a warm send-off, feeling a connection with me, perhaps seeing his missing daughter-in-law in me.

We had plans to visit Kuruva Island and return to Bangalore so that we can take rest on Monday. However, my son and I never wanted the trip to end. Little did we know that was an even more beautiful experience was waiting for us.

Kuruva Island to The Journey That Never Was:

We started our journey on the sunny Sunday after a lovely send-off from the homestay thatha. Kuruva Island was our destination, a beautiful and serene island located in the middle of the Kabini River.

We were filled with hope that we would be able to get tickets to the island. We knew that only 575 tickets were available per day, and we were anxious that they might be sold out. Upon reaching the island, we were greeted with a massive crowd, reminiscent of a carnival festival. It was overwhelming to see so many people in one place.

My husband was looking for a place to park the car while I went rushed to get the tickets. However, to our disappointment, the ticket counter had already closed for the day(even after 9.30 am) and we had missed our chance. We were disheartened, as were eager to explore the island.

At this point, we were feeling a bit lost and disheartened. As per our plans, we decided to head back to Bangalore. As we wandered, we stumbled upon a quaint tea shop. The shopkeeper was friendly, and we struck up a conversation with him. He was a local, and we learned a lot about the near by places. While sipping the tea, the shopkeeper suggested to explore Coorg, which was just 20 km away. He described the route as mesmerizing, and we decided to give it a shot.

With no network on our phones, we set off on our journey.  As we drove towards Coorg, we kept asking locals for directions since there was no network for 20 kms and we could not rely on Google maps. The excitement of the unknown and the thrill of the journey had taken over us.

As we continued, we were awestruck by the scenic beauty of the route. The lush greenery, the winding roads, and the cool breeze made for a refreshing and rejuvenating experience.

Traveling can often lead to unexpected adventures and experiences that one would never have imagined. One such experience happened to us is on this trip to Kuruva Island, which ended up turning into an unplanned trip to Coorg.

As we neared Coorg, we realized that finding accommodation would be a challenge. It was a long weekend, and most places were booked. However, we were determined to find a place to stay and continue our adventure.

5 Days, 3 Destinations, Countless Adventures: Vythiri Wayanad, Kalpetta Kudajadri and Madikeri Coorg

5 Days, 3 Destinations, Countless Adventures: Vythiri Wayanad, Kalpetta Kudajadri, and Madikeri Coorg

Fulfilling my Long-Time Travel Dreams in One Epic Journey

Have you ever had a long-time desire to explore the nature, hopping from one place to another, without any strict itinerary or plan in mind? This is exactly what I had been longing for, and finally, it happened like a magic.

As a travel enthusiast, we had the opportunity to explore some of the most captivating destinations. Our journey began with Vythiri in Wayanad, followed by Kudajadri in Kalpetta and finished in Madikeri in Coorg.

In this blog, I am going to share my experience that left a lasting impression on me. Each day brought a new adventures and experiences, and I was able to fully immerse myself in the present moment. My long time desire of travelling without a plan, hopping from one place to another, meeting new people and making friends were fulfilled in this travel.

Booking Cancelled: Our Change of Plans

We had planned to take advantage of the May 1st holiday and take two days off from work (April 27 and 28) to enjoy our family time off. We had booked 3 days at Vythiri Holiday Resort for around 12K and were all set to go. However, just one day before our planned departure, we received an email that the hotel had cancelled our booking and had even gone ahead and refunded the advance payment without notifying us! Needless to say, me and my husband were all quite disappointed and frustrated at the sudden turn of events.

Despite our disappointment, I couldn't help but feel that perhaps the universe had other plans in store for us. However, since it was peak season and a school holiday, each resort was quite expensive and already fully booked. Despite the initial setbacks, I remained determined to find a place.

Thankfully, our efforts were not in vain as my husband stumbled upon an incredible private tree house in Wayanad Through the use of Google Maps. Surprisingly, this beautiful spot was not listed on any of the travel websites, and we were able to locate the tea house contact number and directly contacted the owner. To my delight, availability was there and our booking was confirmed.

Soon our excitement to the much-anticipated getaway began…

Prepping for our Adventure:

Our little son had been eagerly waiting for this trip since two weeks, and he was excited from the very beginning. He kept telling his school teacher that he would be going on a trip. On the day of the excursion, he woke up earlier than all of us, at 4:00 am, and exclaimed looking at the window, "It's 10:30 am! The sun is up!" For him, waking up at 10:30 am was a big deal. He finished his breakfast quickly and without much fuss, and by 5:00 am, we were all ready to go.

Stop Over at Ruchi Mane for a Delicious Karnataka-style Breakfast

We were travelling through the stretch of Mysore express highway almost 3 hours and were struggling to find a decent place to eat. Finally, we stopped over at Ruchi Mane at 8.30 am, a restaurant made with bricks and hut shaped that served mouthwatering breakfast options.

The food here is prepared in the Karnataka style and if you're accustomed to the Tamil Nadu cuisine, particularly A2B chutneys, you may find these Karnataka-style food here underwhelming. However, if you're willing to explore, you will discover the region's unique chutney and sambar that offer a burst of flavors to your breakfast.

And if you're a fan of tea, Ruchi Mane will not disappoint. Their tea is brewed to perfection, and it's a must-try for anyone who loves a good cup of tea.

Our Journey through Bandipur Forest:

We had an opportunity to take the route via Bandipur Forest, and it was an experience that left us in awe of nature's beauty. As we drove through the winding roads, I couldn't help but feel excited about what lay ahead.

I was driving and my husband kept his eyes peeled for any signs of animal. My husband instructed me to maintenance a speed of 10, so that he can keep an eye out for any animals while my son enjoyed the scenery with his face outside the window. Throughout our drive of about 20kms inside the forest, we heard the rustling of leaves, the chirping of birds, and the occasional kri-kri sound. It was as if the forest was welcoming us with open arms.

Just as we were beginning to feel a little disheartened, we spotted two deer. The drive, the scenery, was the best way to kick off our trip.

Treehouse Retreat and Honey Tasting Adventure.

Upon arriving at India Gate Restaurant in Vythiri, we enjoyed a delightful lunch. Following our meal, we headed to Bodhi Hut, where we had made a last-minute booking at an excellent price. To our delight, the accommodations were even better than we had anticipated, with a stunning treehouse design that spanned both the top and bottom floors.

We were surrounded by lush greenery, and the sounds of birds and Lampyridae(lightning bugs) filled the air. The place was cozy and comfortable, and we were able to truly relax and unwind in its peaceful surroundings.

As we explored the beautiful natural surroundings, we realized that this unexpected change of plans had turned out to be a blessing in disguise. We were able to enjoy our stay without any stress or worries and were able to fully appreciate the beauty of this lesser-known gem of a destination.

We had relaxing game of throw ball in the swimming pool. My husband and I engaged in a healthy competition, with the winner earning the opportunity to book a marathon. Meanwhile, our son enjoyed playing with floaters, and we had the pool all to ourselves. Despite the chilly weather, the water was warm, adding to our enjoyment.

Unexpected Delight at Lakkidi View Point
Later that evening, we visited En Ooru but discovered that tickets were limited(only 2000 entries allowed per day), and the counter had closed. We decided to take a detour and ended up at Lakkidi View Point. The stunning views of the valley and mountains left us in awe.

Later, we visited the honey museum, where we tasted eight different varieties of honey. While the experience was enjoyable, we found that the hype surrounding the museum was not entirely warranted.

Indulged in Mouthwatering Delights:

For dinner, we got parcel from India Gate restaurant, as we had enjoyed the food so much. Afterward, we spent the rest of the night admiring the stars and enjoying a peaceful conversation, tasting the signature dishes, the Sultan chicken and the fish pollichathu (Priced at Rs.550), which were served on banana leaves. If you're visiting India Gate Restaurant, these 3 dishes is a must-try on their menu.

But for us, the highlight of the night was not just the food, but the atmosphere as well. However, a sudden thought occurred to me:  In future, I wished to spend my time enjoying the serene ambiance, listening to music, and reading a book, surrounded by nature.

Day 2 : 900 Kandi Adventure:

On the second day of our Wayand trip, we woke up to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. I prepared coffee and enjoyed it while relaxing in a hammock, surrounded by trees and a swinging breeze.

After getting ready, we began our journey and made a stop at a tea estate where we had some refreshing tender coconut, sold by a young boy who looked no older than ten years. Although the experience of sipping tender coconut amidst the tea estate was incredible, I couldn't help but admiring the boy who was helping his dad at this young age.

As we continued our journey, we reached 900 Kandi, which was a 5km Jeep ride away from car parking. The ride was a bit crazy, it was a bumpy off-road ride that was both thrilling and dangerous. We could feel our heart pounding with excitement end enjoyed the thrill ride of navigating through the rough and tumble terrain. I would advise pregnant women to avoid this Jeep ride, and also note that it costs 1200 per jeep, with six people allowed in one Jeep. There were no food options available on the top.

Next up, we got to experience an unique experience. The 900 Kandi Glass Bridge in Wayanad offered a thrilling experience as we walked on a transparent glass pathway above a valley. It's a must-visit attraction for those seeking an adrenaline rush and breathtaking views of nature. Later, My husband opted for free-walking and I was amazed by his body balance as he walked effortlessly. I, on the other hand, tried my hand at cycling zip-lining, horizontal walk and it was an experience like no other.

Finally, we went for a trek to a nearby cave, and to my surprise, my three-year-old son completed the trek with ease. He seemed to love trekking and adventure, following in his mom's footsteps.

Pookade Lake: A Rainy Boating Adventure

Upon reaching the lake around 4 p.m, we were greeted by a long queue for boating. However, luck was on our side as there were 2 seater pedal boats available without no queque. We quickly grabbed the opportunity and took tickets for pedal boating.

My husband and I took charge of pedaling the boat, while our son Hethvick navigated the boat. The weather was cool, and there was a hint of rain in the air. We set off on our boating adventure, admiring the lush greenery and mountains surrounding the lake.

As we were halfway through our boating experience, it started raining heavily. It was as if someone had turned on a tap, and the rain was pouring down like cats and dogs. We were thrilled to be boating in the rain. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

After completing one round of boating in the rain, we got out of the boat. My son was ecstatic to dance in the rain. We let him dance and get wet, and he loved every minute of it. We were all drenched, and our clothes were completely wet, but it was worth it.

As the rain subsided, we walked towards the parking area, admiring the water flow caused by the rain. The whole area looked magical and serene, and we couldn't help but feel grateful for this experience.

If you ever get a chance to visit Pookade Lake, make sure to take a boat ride and embrace the beauty of nature.

"Tea Estate Walk and Nighttime Swimming: A Relaxing End to an Adventurous Day"

After an eventful day of adventure, we decided to take a relaxing walk in the tea estate in the evening. Hethvick, my three-year-old son suggested couple poses and clicked innovative photos of us. We had a wonderful photoshoot experience when Hethvick took our first photo, and I was impressed by the admirable output. We also witnessed men trimming tea leaves using a machine, and we connected with nature as we walked through the tea estate, crossing the bridge of river stream Kabini

Later that night, we decided to jump into the swimming pool once again. The water was warm, and with the moon shining bright, along with the swimming pool lights, we had a great time splashing around and enjoying each other's company.

Star Nights and Glass Heights: Our Dreamy Stay in a Triangle Treehouse

The glass-encased, triangle-shaped treehouse enabled us to stargaze the moon's glow, sky and stars as we slept on the bed. The owner gave us a brand new water cooler to fulfill our request for a fan. It was a great way to end the day and unwind after all the adventures we had.

Next two days, we encountered a plethora of stories and experiences that we had never before come across. Will share in my next post.
